Given our fiduciary standing as financial planners, combined with our demeanor and extensive experience, we have served as expert witnesses, offering our insights on client/financial advisor procedures.

We advocate for ethical practices and act as stewards for clients and fellow financial advisors committed to the right way of working with and guiding clients. Our integrity has led attorneys to enlist our services as expert witnesses, seeking our opinion letters/statements on conflicts between clients and their financial advisors.


*Steffens Financial may not act as an expert witness in any case where we or our affiliates are named. Expert witness services are separate and unrelated to Commonwealth.

Our Process

Step One: Read Documents

Our process begins with a thorough review of the legal documents and case materials provided. We analyze the documents to gain a clear understanding of the facts, context, and scope of the matter at hand. 

Step Two: Research the Background of the Accused Financial Advisor and/or Firm

We conduct a detailed research into the professional history of the financial advisor and/or firm involved. Our goal is to build a comprehensive profile that provides context and supports or challenges the claims at hand with objective, factual insight.

Step Three: Outline

We develop a structured outline to guide our expert analysis and discussions.

This outline includes:

  1. Key Topics & Discussion Points
  2. Questions to Review with Attorney
Step Four: Report / Deliverable

We compile our findings into a clear, professional report. During this phase, we'll review the action steps necessary to move the case forward.

Step Five: Case Follow-Up

This will include:

  1. Testifying in Court as an expert witness
  2. Additional Discussions, as needed, to clarify findings or address new developments
  3. Additional Research, as needed/requested
  4. Additional meetings (video, in-person, or phone)
